Travel Notes in Beijing during the National Day 2019

Due to preparations for the celebration of China’s 70th Anniversary, many top attractions in Beijing will be closed for a certain period in 2019.

1. The Forbidden City will be closed from September 21st to October 1st.

2. The National Museum will be closed from September 21st to October2nd.

3. The Wanchun Pavillion (the best site to view the Forbidden City from above) of Jingshan Park has been closed for repairs. The reopening date is not yet known.

4. Beihai Park may limit the number of visitors while open and will be closed fromSeptember 21st-October 1st.

5. The time that visitors are allowed inside of the Hutong area will be restricted from September 21stto October1st.

6. From September 14th-16th some of the roads in the 2nd Ring Road region in Beijing may be closed due to military parade rehearsals. The roads may be closed again on September 21st.

Travel Tips:

1. During the celebration of China’s 70th Anniversary, surrounding areas in downtown Beijing will experience traffic restrictions and some roads will be closed for part of the day.

2. During this period, flight and highway traffic in and out of Beijing will be restricted.

3. Tourists in Beijing will undergo more rigorous security checks.

Travel Suggestions from China Highlights:

1. If you are planning a Beijing visit during this time, we suggest you change your travel date (if possible) or change your tour to one of our other recommended destinations: Xi’anShanghai, and Pingyao.

2. If you have booked a Beijing tour during the period of September 21st–October 1st, we recommend that you cancel any travel inside of Beijing’s 2nd Ring Road region (including Tian’anmen Square, the Forbidden City, Jingshan, Beihai Park, Hutong, the Bell Tower, the Drum Tower, Liulichang Street, Dashilan Street, Qianmen Avenue, Temple of Heaven, the Confucius Mansion, Guozijian).
